Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
